Discrimination

Employees (including other workers and partners) are protected from certain forms of discrimination.

Employers need to deal with any issues promptly, fairly and appropriately to avoid matters escalating to workplace problems.  We know how damaging discrimination claims can be and will support organisations, and employees, in this complex area.  We have extensive knowledge and experience and a proven track record of protecting our clients’ rights.

Unlawful discrimination is where an employee is treated less favourably than another on the basis of what is known as a ‘protected characteristic’ namely:

  • their race (including nationality)
  • colour
  • ethnicity
  • sex including pregnancy and maternity
  • disability
  • age
  • religion or belief
  • sexual orientation
  • marital status
  • gender reassignment

Unlike ordinary unfair dismissal awards for compensation is not capped.  We work with charities, companies and organisations to ensure that they have the appropriate policies and procedures in place as well as providing training, support and representation.
